John Early is someone that makes me stop and pay attention. I don't always get it but his acting feels like an abstract painting. Which I don't always get those but I always pay attention.
Like a lot of great actors, you see him and know what he does. A comedian who often plays these aloof and slightly impish creatures. Yet, you want to see him do it again and again.
555 was recommended to me a few weeks ago and I watched it with my brother. We both laughed sporadically. Rarely at the same thing. And were just left with a question mark of what we watched. The best comparison was live action Adult Swim. Something akin to On Cinema At the Cinema. So it's not surprising that Tim Heidecker was an executive producer.
I'm less familiar with Kate Berlant but I know she'll deliver when I see her in something. She has a great presence and ability to get lost in the character. But also bring out subtle moments of humor. Her and John work well together. Like an uncomfortable Bonnie and Clyde (see their zombie couple on Dropout's VIP). If it was the sixties, Andy Warhol would cast them as Batman and Robin.
There's four more episodes of 555. I've not watched them. It's show that I need to be in the right head space for. Relaxed, rested, and ready to ponder the universe 24 frames a second (it might be 30 or 60).
